Vivificatio

Competition Project for Re-use Italy - Vivant Architecture

The design of the Santa Maria del Piano Monastery follows a minimal intervention approach, preserving its historical fabric while transforming it into a modern meditation space. Locally sourced oak wood was chosen for its durability and sustainability, while glass partitions enhance the visibility of the historic walls, creating a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces.

A water element was integrated to improve thermal insulation and add a sense of tranquility. The tree and spiral staircase in the apse symbolize personal growth, while the bell tower was reimagined with metal sound rods for a meditative experience.

In the landscape, stone seating areas serve as memorials honoring those who lost their lives during the 1855 cholera epidemic. This transformation preserves the site's historical identity while creating a peaceful space for meditation and community gatherings.
