Container In Morocco

2nd Year Project - Climate Compatible Building Design

This container designed for Rabat, Morocco, a design proposal was created by analyzing the vernacular architectural techniques, climate and living conditions of the region. Protecting the container from the sun was our first priority as Morocco has a hot and humid climate.

When we analyzed the vernacular architecture, we came across houses made of adobe with small windows and arched doors. The local people have created air circulation between the spaces by positioning the windows crosswise. As the hot air tends to rise, it is evacuated from the high point of the arched doors and helps to cool the spaces.

In addition, we designed an ecological structure by covering the container walls and courtyard walls with adobe. Since we designed the courtyard walls with holes, we provided airflow and shading inside the structure.

The perforated wall, which we came accross in Islamic architecture, is also one of the frequently encountered examples in vernacular architecture, which also supports the understanding of privacy.
